Homeschooling my children is what ultimately led me to teaching others. My decision to homeschool stemmed not only from my own academic struggles but also from the shortcomings I witnessed in Ohio’s public school system—despite our district being ranked third in the state. Many of us, though strong students, still required remedial college courses to compensate for gaps in the system, and by the time I had children, little had improved.
Friends first introduced me to homeschooling, and after just one year of teaching my four-year-old daughter, I was hooked. The speed and depth of her learning through one-on-one instruction astounded me, and later, my son experienced the same success. I soon discovered that such results are common
among homeschoolers, with yearly academic achievement tests showing they outperform even private school students.
Driven by my frustration with the flaws of the public school system, I made it my mission to give my children—and others who leave my school—a solid academic foundation. By keeping them far ahead, any setbacks they face in public school will have little impact. Advanced students tend to be more confident, making school feel easier and more enjoyable. After all, I’ve never met a child who thrived academically yet despised school.
Too often in public school, children fall behind, becoming stressed and burnt out, which erodes their self-esteem. This domino effect turns school into something to dread rather than embrace, and I’m determined to prevent that. Worse yet, it robs them of the tools and inspiration needed to pursue higher education.
Ohio isn’t the only state facing these educational challenges—I’ve seen similar obstacles while teaching in Virginia, Texas, and Montana. Parents have withdrawn their children from Head Start and Montessori programs to enroll them in my school. In fact, many have noted that, especially compared to Montessori options, my program provides superior value at a noticeably lower cost.
A lawyer in San Antonio encouraged me to establish a full-scale facility to expand my impact, remarking that he had never seen a Pre-K program like mine. Additionally, a well-known preschool in Montana invited me to take over and train their teachers in my methods. Now, I’m in wild and wonderful West
Virginia, where most of my family resides, eager to see what kind of difference I can make here.
